Department of electrical engineering (Program C) was established in August 2008, in line with national policy of enormous investment on electro-optical industry. However, the master’s program had been started since August 2003, and the doctoral program had been started since August 2005. In 2009, the evening-class master’s program for working engineers began its operation. The complete programs offered by the department fulfill the great demand of well-trained engineers and researchers in the related fields nationwide and in global.
The program will focus on the research and teaching resource on the following two areas:
1) Semiconductor and Green Energy
2) Optical Electromechanical System and Light Information
The goal is to have active research projects to allow faculty to build knowledge and expertise in the areas. In the same time, students will receive education of high quality and become well-prepared engineers and researchers in the areas.
The campus is located at the central spot of northern Taiwan, half way between Taipei and Hsinchu, where many high tech industrial and academic institutes cluster around. The location advantage provides numerous cooperative opportunities with the institutes in the region.
The educational quality of the Department is certified by the Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan (IEET) for six years . The certificate guarantees that the degrees offered by the Department are well received and recognized globally among member countries of Washington Accord (WA). It increases students’ competency in the job market as well as application to overseas institute for advanced degree.
Each faculty member is a mentor for a small group of students, comprised of students from freshmen to graduate students. The group and its mentor are like a family. Students can take care of others as well as get taken care of in many things, including campus life and academic challenge. There is also a designated Department Mentor, who serves as a counselor for learning and career planning.
